NITROGEN PURGING AND START UP

JCI Services work with the customer’s re-commissioning and start-up teams to bridge this interface and design the best solution to each project need.

Before the introduction of hydrocarbons into a new system, a purge to remove the atmospheric oxygen to below the explosive level is generally required. In many cases, this is completed as part of a seamless start-up and introduction of the process fluids and gases. In cases where the system pre-commissioning has been completed long before the planned start-up, a nitrogen purge and blanket are often completed in advance to mothball the system and prevent corrosion.

The purge gas is injected from the furthest upstream system point and blown forward ahead of the introduced hydrocarbons to prevent the mingling of oxygen with the hydrocarbons at any time.
